Round Britain & Ireland Race Finish

In August 2006 I sailed in a non-stop, 1,789 mile sailing race, to raise funds for a crucial research project to discover the genetic causes of Ulcerative Colitis.

This debilitating disease is currently incurable, with 12,000 new cases each year and 25% of sufferers ending up in surgery like me. After an emergency operation to remove my colon, I had to adjust to life with an ileostomy bag on my abdomen.

The research will cost £132,000 for the first year and £52,000 in year two, and is the biggest project of its kind ever conducted.

Round Britain & Ireland is a physically and mentally demanding race, with no rest for two weeks. It is considered a serious challenge for even the fittest sailors, let alone for someone who has endured years of debilitating illness and an ileostomy.

Please take a moment to read about my experience and why I feel I should take on this challenge, and then check the donations page to show your support.
